Trinidad Island is located in Huntington Beach.
It is one of five manmade islands the city
residents enjoy. To access Trinidad Island from Edinger Avenue, you must go beyond Bolsa Chica
Street and Saybrook. Keep heading west toward the
ocean and turn left at the fourth turn, Trinidad. As
you enter Trinidad, you see beautiful townhomes
located on lagoons to your left and right.
Those homes are Seagate. Ownership can include a
boat slip and amenities such as tennis courts.
Passing Seagate, you must cross a
bridge to enter Trinidad Island. Just beyond the
bridge on the right hand side is a park, small beach
and public shower and restroom facilities. There is
no lifeguard on duty but you will often see parents
carefully watching their children play in the water
next to the small beach. Kids bring their
float devices, fishing poles and generally have fun
in the summer sun. The beach and playground
are favored by youngsters and pre-teens mostly.
Entering Trinidad Island is a
lush, greenbelt and sign "Trinidad Island" which is
surrounded by colorful flowers. On Trinidad, there
are beautiful homes, fantastic channel views and
several
public parks: Leslie J.
Prince with channel views next to a beautiful
estate, Conrad Park
and French Park.
Two of the parks
include benches for sitting and watching the boats go
by, lush lawns for picnics and exercise walkways.
The five manmade islands in
Huntington Harbour include Trinidad, Humboldt,
Davenport, Gilbert and Admiralty. There's also a
small, gated Coral Cay Island accessible from
Pacific Coast Highway. It is not counted as one of
the islands. The islands are connected via
Huntington Harbour waterways but are not accessible
to each other completely, without "going around"
Warner to Pacific Coast Highway and then Admiralty
Drive. Many of the houses in Huntington Harbour have
boat slips.
Public launch ramps are located
next to Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. Parking
meters charge an $1.50/hour fee. There's also a
public dock that's often open. It permits two hour
maximum docking. Another launch ramp operated by the
County of Orange is located at the Edinger Avenue
beyond Seabridge Townhomes. Stay right on Edinger,
crossing over the wooden bridge.

Construction began on the Huntington Harbour
complex in 1963. Two islands, Admiralty and
Gilbert, were included in the first phase of
development. Today, Huntington Harbour contains
five manmade islands offering a wide variety of
home styles in both single family and
condominium units. Every year, during the
Christmas season, the Harbour residents present
a 'Cruise of Lights' by dressing up their boats
with lights and decorations for a parade through
the Harbour. Residents and visitors attend the
nightly parades which have become a popular
attraction.
The
Huntington Harbour contains several political
organizations and its very own yacht club with
fishing trips. There's even a local magazine
published just for Huntington Harbour residents.
