In the
summer, Huntington City Beach enjoys several
major sporting events that include US Open of
Surfing and Beach Games, and even a fireworks
show on July 4 at the beach.
Huntington City Beach includes Pier Plaza, the
location of a weekly Farmer's Market and Art
Fair that has been voted the most scenic local
market in Southern California. Summers
bring top performers to Pier Plaza for the
Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the City of
Huntington Beach. From jazz to rock, soul and
mamba to swing and hip hop, the location
overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Huntington
Beach not only features special concerts during
this time but includes on most weekends, people
bringing congas and drums to join in a tribal
beat session at Pier Plaza.
Huntington City Beach
includes some fire rings or bonfire pits on the
south side of the beach near Beach Boulevard,
offered on first come, first serve basis.
There are several privately operated concession
shops along Huntington City Beach, the biggest
being Zack's Beach Catering and Concessions.
The shop not only caters special events at the
beach but also rents skates, bicycles, tandem
bikes, surf boards, body boards, wetsuits,
umbrellas and chairs, but also has volleyballs.
Zack's and several other companies offer surfing
lessons on an hourly basis for beginners.

There are approximately 20
sand volleyball courts in the area north and
south of the pier and others near Beach
Boulevard.
Huntington City Beach is open from 5 a.m. to
10 p.m. daily and experiences a beach curfew for
seven hours each day. During that time,
guests are not allowed to go on the beach.
Huntington City Beach is part of an 9.2 mile paved beach path popular for
walking, jogging, rollerblading and
skateboarding. At Huntington City Beach,
tourists, local residents and vacationers love
to swim, surf, sunbathe, kite surf, fly kites,
play volleyball, smash ball, throw Frisbees,
watch sunsets and look at and listen to the
waves. While pets are not allowed on most
of the beaches, you can take your dog to one of
the City Beach locations known as Dog Beach. It
is located between Golden West Street and Seapoint Street.

Dining along Huntington City
Beach includes the fabulous fish served at
Duke's on top level at the south side of the
Huntington Beach Pier and barbeque and variety
of dishes at Sandy's at the Beach below it
overlooking the sand. On the pier, you can eat
at Ruby's with its two-story dining and forever
views of the Pacific Ocean. There is usually a
wait at most of these restaurants because they
are so ideally located. They are worth it,
however. A trip to Huntington Beach should
include an ocean view seat, perhaps a cocktail
and nice meal.
On the pier, you can fish for
free, as is permitted on all California piers. A
bait and tackle shop called Let's Go Fishin'
rents fishing rods and reels for a low price.
There are cleaning basins on the pier and public
restrooms with handicap accessible facilities.
You cannot fish north or south of the pier at
the beach and fishing beyond that point on the
beach requires a license sold at places such as
Walmart near Beach Boulevard and Talbert Ave. or
Big Five Sporting Goods on Beach Boulevard near
Ellis, across the street from 5 Points Plaza
shopping mall. One day per year, the City of
Huntington Beach sponsors a fun event for kids
to age 15. The Huck Finn Fishing Derby invites
children to dress in their favorite Huck Finn or
Becky Thatcher outfit from the famous Tom Sawyer
adventure books. Prizes are awarded for the
largest fish caught and best costumes. The
event is usually held in early August.
