Huntington Beach-- The Huntington Beach Pier
is the highlight to any visit to Huntington Beach, California. It is the
anchor to the downtown shopping district along Main Street, and to the
City Beaches, the focal point of this tourist destination. First built
in 1904, Huntington Beach Pier is said to be 1853 feet long, and
was rebuilt in its current rendition with re-enforced concrete pilings.

Hours: Huntington Beach Pier is open 5 a.m. - Midnight. Location:
315 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA.
Shops & restaurants: On the pier you will find public restrooms,
Ruby's Diner; Tower Zero lifeguard tower; Kite Connection, Surf City HB
Store and Let's Go Fishin' bait and tackle shop.
Getting to Huntington Beach Pier: Exit San Diego Freeway (405) at
Beach Blvd. and drive toward Huntington Beach exit (not
Westminster). When Beach Blvd. comes to a dead-end at Pacific Coast
Highway, turn right (you will pass through approx. 12 intersections with
stoplights). Drive less than one mile and the pier is on the left
side--you can see it as you approach it. Parking is available next to
the pier. Flat fee is charged on busy summer days, and the rest of the
time you can purchase time in one of the machines in the parking lots.

Duck-a-thon is
held one weekend in May with the rubber ducks dumped off the HB
Pier.

turned on during a celebration in early December. |
Fishing on the pier is one of the
hottest sports at the beach. When the tourists and locals are busy
and not out strolling, you'll still find the fishermen out with their
lawn chairs, buckets and rods and reels, waiting for a nibble.
Some interesting fish snagged from the see at HB Pier--
stingrays, sharks, corbina, perch and a variety of fish are reeled
in. Anglers generally don't
eat the fish caught from Huntington Beach Pier or other piers in the surrounding
areas, especially in certain years and seasons. They fish for the
sport and enjoyment of being outdoors. Fishing still ranks as the top
sport and Huntington Beach Pier is no exception, especially because you
don't need a license.
The pier is an entertaining place to watch people
stroll and watch the surfers and waves below. Never knowing what you'll
find, if you stay there too long, you'll probably be recruited to take a
family photo for tourists passing by. As the number one picture spot in
Huntington Beach, there's a picture taken every couple seconds during
the summer and every minute during the winter on the Huntington Beach
Pier.
