The City Beach Fire Rings & Bonfires south of the Huntington Beach pier are one option, and you'll find two state beaches that surround city beach both have bonfire rings, as well.

On most evenings in Huntington Beach, California, you can smell the wood burning  at Huntington beaches.  All have rings offered for free use on a first come first serve basis.  The camp-like tradition lives on from generation to generation in this time honored celebration that brings families, friends and business associates together in a circle, huddled around the warm glowing flames to fend off the chilled night air of the Pacific Ocean. While evenings in Huntington Beach seldom reach below 55 degrees and the average temperature is around 62 degrees, the ocean sometimes creates a misty atmosphere that, along with the soft winds, creates a chill.

The busiest season at the beach usually runs from late May through early September. Free fire pits are greatly desired during this time, especially on weekends. It is not unusual for people to stake claim to a pit in the early afternoon, even when planning to use it later in the day. 

The free containers can be found on the beaches beginning not far from C2 on the map, just South of Sunset Beach past Warner Avenue on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach. Continuing along the coast, you will even find them stretching past Beach Boulevard on Pacific Coast Highway (3D on map).

There is no free  wood on the beach unless, like a parking meter with time left, you happen upon someone's left over wood, so it usually must be purchased.
