The Surfers' Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach, California is similar to Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. It includes handprints, footprints and signatures of recognized surfers who are chosen for their contributions or feats in the sport of surfing. They are invited to a ceremony in their honor and are asked to lend their hands, feet and signatures to special cement forms in front of Huntington Surf and Sport. Their stone tributes surround a centerpiece, life size bronze statue of Duke Kahanamoku, the father of US surfing. This statue was commissioned and created by Edmond Shumpert in 2001. Shumpert is also known locally for two other statues he created in the Public Art Program in Huntington Beach. They include the Ultimate Challenge on Pacific Coast Highway at Huntington Street in front of Huntington City Beach entrance and a bust of Duke Kahanamoku that sat at the base of the Huntington Beach Pier.
