If you love red on an
automobile, you are not alone. Car collectors seem to favor
variations of red as the cherry color for their classic
vehicles. At Concours d'Elegance classic car show in
Huntington Beach, California, you will see red, pink, baby
blue, tan, canary yellow, deep blue, turquoise, white and
nearly every hue imaginable in the color spectrum.
Each year brings repeat
entrants and many new surprises. The cars are sheer delight
for children who've never seen an old-fashioned collector
car and are dreams or walks down memory lane for those who
remember riding in the family car in their youth that is now
considered a classic.
Held on the lush grass
lawns of Huntington Central Park, the area is fenced off for
this one-day annual car competition and show to raise money
for a good cause, Children's Wing of the Central Library and
Cultural Center. Surrounded by many shade trees, guests can
wander in the open areas of sit under the shade of a
Eucalyptus tree and watch entertainment such as bands,
sipping on lemonade and eating a hot dog.
Hundreds of classic and
collector car owners enter this annual competition, one of
the favorite events on the West Coast because of its car
categories and location three miles from the beach. Many
automobile collectors dress in costume appropriate to the
time frame for their cars. The public is invited for an
admission fee (usually around $10) to look at the beautiful
automobiles and talk with the owners. Classic car owners may
participate by contacting Concours d'Elegance and filling
