Huntington
Central Library is a love affair! Not just with books, but
with looks. The building and architecture come from one of
L.A.'s best known architects (Dion Neutra) and though the place
has elements that don't quite hold well through wear, the
building itself is sturdy and makes ample use of windows and
glass to reflect the park that surrounds it, bringing the
outdoors in as you read or relax in the stacks.
With numerous flowing fountains--one lines a walkway toward
the entrance, one used to swirl through the columns in the front
as you entered the building, and one gushes and flows outdoors
reflecting the delicate colors of sunset over the Pacific Ocean
a mere two or three miles distance. The Huntington Beach Library
system is operated as part of the city, and this Central Library
is crowning glory of the libraries throughout the city.
Be sure to wander at sunset to enjoy the colors that are so
warm and relaxing. Bring you camera or cell phone to snap
images, but don't turn your phone on inside the building.
Talking on cell phones is forbidden inside.
